Mc² Honda S2000 removable bolt in tubular front crossmember
For those tricky builds with less than ideal room around the factory crossmember, We have designed a bolt in removable tubular crossmember kit, with two weld on plates for the frame rails to add rigidity and something substantial enough to bolt too. The plates are 6”x6” 1/8” plate and the cross member is made with 1.5” OD x 0.095” wall mild steel DOM with 2”x2”x1/8” light weight gussets supporting the tube to the end plates. 8 bolts 8x1.25mm hardware included.
Installation Guide
Tools/Materials Needed:
- Angle grinder (with cutting and grinding discs)
- Drill with metal drill bits
- Welding equipment (MIG/TIG recommended)
- Rust-inhibiting paint (for post-installation)
- Safety gear (gloves, goggles, welding mask)
---
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Remove the Stock Crossmember
- Cut out the existing sheet metal crossmember using an angle grinder.
- Ensure clean, straight cuts to prepare the frame rail for the new bolt-in component.
---
2. Drill Access Holes for Mounting Plate Nuts
- Drill holes on the side of the frame rail to provide access to the nuts on the backside of the weld-in mounting plates after installation.
---
3. Prepare the Frame Rail for Welding
- Grind off paint in a 2" radius around the mounting plate locations on the frame rail.
- This ensures proper weld adhesion and structural integrity.
---
4. Weld the Mounting Plates
- Position the weld-in mounting plates over the prepared areas.
- Fully weld the plates to the frame rail, ensuring consistent, penetration-rich welds for maximum strength.
---
5. Repaint Exposed Metal Surfaces
- After welding, apply rust-inhibiting paint to the exposed metal areas where paint was removed.
- This prevents corrosion and maintains the frame’s durability.
---
6. Install the Bolt-In Crossmember
- Secure the removable crossmember to the welded plates using the provided bolts.
- Tighten nuts through the pre-drilled access holes for a secure fit.
Additional Tips:
- Test-fit the crossmember before final welding to ensure alignment.
- Use a wire brush to clean the frame rail after grinding for better weld quality.
- For complex installations, consult a professional welder.
